Principal's Message

St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School

Welcome to St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School.  Our school serves approximately 850 students from North Bay and our surrounding communities.  Our school’s history dates back to 1931 and our Catholicity and rich traditions are deeply rooted in the communities that we serve.

Consistent with our motto Spiritu Virtute Scientia, our goal is to create a 21st century learning environment that will support the intellectual and spiritual growth of each of our students, developing leaders who are rooted in Gospel Values and committed to meeting the challenges of our society.  At St. Joseph-Scollard Hall, we strive to create learning environments that are diverse, engaging and relevant to our students to allow them to deepen their learning to reach their full potential.  Our assessment and evaluation practices are rooted in the philosophy that all students can be successful and demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.  Our continuous focus on success for all students is supported by a collaborative partnership between all staff, our students, parents and community that we serve.  The strong and diverse athletics programs that we provide allow opportunities for students outside of the classroom and are rooted in our philosophy of “win with humility, lose with pride”. We provide many different opportunities for students to become involved in our BEARS community; from athletics, student council, community outreach programs, numerous clubs and much more.  Student voice is essential and welcomed and I strongly encourage all students to become involved and enjoy all that St. Joseph-Scollard Hall has to offer.

Communication is critical to support student achievement and wellbeing and we encourage both our staff and parents to engage in ongoing and open communication.  We are very proud of all our students’ achievements and accomplishments and I encourage you to visit our school website often, access our Gradeboook tool EDSBY to support your child’s learning, and come into the school to see what life as a BEAR is all about!  Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns and I look forward to getting to know each one of you over the course of the school year.  All the best to our students for a successful 2016-2017 school year!

Sincerely,

Derek Belanger
