We recommend that students and parents/guardians spend time together on the ontariocolleges link above to review all the College programs and requirements for the current school year. Using the Career Cruising website and their IPP (Individualised Program Plan) in preparing for the students’ next steps will assist the students in their grade 12 Exit Interview with planning for next steps. This tool, along with Ontario Colleges documents, will be very beneficial. Students should also visit the Grade 12 table located in Student Services to pick up list of all Colleges visiting SJSH this year and sign up for 3 visits. Guidance will be using the Career Cruising messaging system to remind students of all importance information for Post Secondary so students are highly encouraged to be checking daily their emails on Career Cruising as they update their IPP. The use of the messaging system and the Grade 12 table in Student Services are where key information for this exciting journey will be found. Weekly uploads and messages will go out via Career Cruising so students should be checking their Career Cruising account daily.
Grade 12 students are permitted to sign up for three sessions during class time and an unlimited number of sessions on the spare. It is critical to sign up for sessions well in advance – we may not be able to facilitate last minute attempts to join sessions. Sign up early, attend your sessions and become better informed.
The College Pathway
It is recommended that students begin the process to a post-secondary college destination by using their Career Cruising account and its tools as well as their Individualized Program Planning (I.P.P.) document to form their next steps. Students can visit the Ontario College Application Service site (ocas.ca) after mid-September to see the college calendars and the highly competitive programs documentation. All documents are available for download and/or printing to aid in research.
Locally, Canadore College hosts the College Information Program (C.I.P.) in early October. This year it is October 14th, 2016. Most colleges attend and it is a great opportunity for students to meet with liaison personnel to discuss their programs and options. Students must sign up for this event in Student Service – transportation is provided.
The college registration fee for 2016 (due at the time registrations are done in November) is $95, which permits a maximum of 5 registration choices to separate colleges. Please note that no more than 3 applications can be made to a single college under this system. Payment options include credit cards or the online banking system offered by OCAS (see their website for details) – no cash, cheques or money orders can be accepted. Please note that pre-paid credit cards have presented difficulties in previous years. It is recommended that regular credit cards be used.
All college-bound students must attend a pre-registration presentation in Monday, November 21st at 9:15am in the auditorium. Please sign up in Student Services so you are excused from period 1. All matters related to college registration will be discussed. It is imperative you attend this meeting to ensure your registration process goes seamlessly!
College registrations will begin Wednesday November 23rd and continue to December 1st 2016. Students must sign up in Student Services (the grade 12 table) – registrations must be done during their spare in order to minimize disruptions to their classroom activities. Seating is limited so please sign up right away.
At the time of registration, each student will be provided a folder to keep all printed materials. Acceptances must be done through their OCAS account. ALWAYS PRINT OFF YOUR PROOF OF ACCEPTANCE PAGES AND KEEP THEM IN YOUR FOLDER!
Please note that all college registration activities will be wrapped up before our Christmas break.
