After grade 10, course types are determined by student destination:
- university, university/college, college or workplace preparation courses are determined by the student’s destination after secondary school.
- open courses - not designed for specific university, college or workplace programs, but rather, reflect interests of the student.
- workplace preparation courses - (“E” fifth digit of course code) usually are not recognized for college or university admission, but do count for graduation).

- Make certain that by the end of this year you will have all 18 of your compulsory credits completed for graduation.
- All grade 12 students will select a religion course which will count for workplace, college or university admission.
- If you are attempting to receive the French Immersion Certificate, then you should have FIF 4UC in your program along with nine (9) previous and current other immersion credits which must include FIF1DC, FIF2DC, & FIF3DC.
- You must choose one of the following ENG 4UC/ENG 4CC ENG 4EC, plus five other courses if you have twenty-four (24) or more credits. In other words, you must select six (6) courses.
- You must have the appropriate ENG course plus six (6) or seven (7) courses to fulfill graduation requirements if you have less than twenty-four credits. In other words, you must have a total of seven (7) or eight (8) in your selection.
- Check university/college calendars to make certain you have the grade 12 prerequisites to enter the program you want.Each institution is different in its demands.
- Always choose two (2) alternates in case of timetable conflicts.
- You must have the grade 11 prerequisite in order to take the grade 12 course.
- Choose realistically. Go with your strengths. You should have a minimum of 70% in the grade 11 course in order to register for the grade 12 course.
- If you will not be returning to SJSH in September 2011, fill out a withdrawal form in place of a registration form.

French Immersion Religious Education: Church and Culture - University/College
This course, designed for the university level student, is directed toward the clear identification of Catholic moral principles and their concrete application in the lives and relationships of students. While grounded in Revelation, the course will examine the contributions of Philosophy and the sciences to a Catholic understanding of ethics and moral living. Students will explore their own ethical and moral stance through an examination of topics such as justice and peace, freedom, reconciliation and interpersonal relationships in order to prepare senior students for the lifelong task of discerning what is good while growing in their ability to live accordingly as moral persons. Note: Students who have passed HRT3MR and/or HRE4MR shall not be allowed to take HRF3OR and/or HRE4OR. The language of instruction in this course is French. Religious Education: Church and Culture - Open
This course has the aim of assisting students in understanding themselves as moral persons living the way of Christ through an examination of the revelation of sacred Scripture, and the experience and teaching of the Catholic Church. It engages students in critical reflection on significant contemporary moral and ethical issues in light of Scripture, Church teaching, and their own experiences (i.e., Theological Reflection). Social and ecological justice issues are explored along with a study of topics that focus on Christian mercy and forgiveness. The graces and challenges of every day human living, understanding who we are, what we are called to be, and living in relationships, including marriage, and family life are explored from a Catholic perspective. Students are challenged to adopt the Christian stance in the political world.

This course investigates interactions between natural and human systems, with a particular emphasis on the impacts of human activity on ecosystems and natural processes. Students will use the geographic inquiry process, apply the concepts of geographic thinking, and employ a variety of spatial skills and technologies to analyse these impacts and propose ways of reducing them. This course explores a range of contemporary legal issues and how they are addressed in both Canadian and international law. Students will develop their understanding of the principles of Canadian and international law when exploring rights and freedoms within the context of topics such as religion, security, cyberspace, immigration, crimes against humanity, and environmental protection. Students will apply the concepts of legal thinking and the legal inquiry process when investigating these issues in both Canadian and international contexts, and they will develop legal reasoning skills and an understanding of conflict resolution in the area of international law. Grade 11 and 12 - Open: 2 Credits
Cooperative Education is a unique learning opportunity, for grade 11 and 12 student that extends the learning in one or more related subjects into the workplace. The opportunity to experience business, industry and the community helps students explore career options and gather information they need to make informed decisions about their post-secondary destination. Students increase their self-knowledge while developing valuable transferable skills and gain an understanding of the importance of attitude, teamwork and personal management skills in the workplace. This course helps students to meet the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations by enabling each person to become a collaborative contributor who applies skills for employability, self –employment and entrepreneurship relative to Christian Vocation. Students interested in experiencing Coop, not only must register for this course, but must also complete a Co-operative application form as well as bring a resume and cover letter pertaining to their job/career interest to their interview.

This course introduces students to object-oriented programming skills that will prepare them for post-secondary studies in computer studies or information technology. Students will learn how to design and write object –oriented programs that use and manipulate classes and objects, including graphical user interfaces. Student teams will plan and carry out software development projects addressing standards and quality assurance considerations. This course builds on students’ previous experience with functions and their developing understanding of rates of change. Students will solve problems involving geometric and algebraic representations of vectors and representations of lines and planes in three dimensional space; broaden their understanding of rates of change to include the derivatives of polynomial, sinusoidal, exponential, rational, and radical functions; and apply these concepts and skills to the modeling of real-world relationships. This course is designed to help students acquire and demonstrate the cross-curricular literacy skills that are evaluated by the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). Students who complete the course successfully will meet the provincial literacy requirement for graduation. Students will read a variety of informational, narrative, and graphic texts and will produce a variety of forms of writing, including summaries, information paragraphs, opinion pieces, and news reports.
